If it were a touch-type app, yes, I would agree with you. But this was somewhat of a visual design.

No, it's not too bad. But the std programming interfaces for each app, I think, should be predictable. Same properties, same events, etc. Since they're both VB (essentially) the controls should have the same properties. Yes, you can go digging into the API stuff, but you shouldn't have to, I don't think.
