Hi Erik

I had the same problem during the installation of Oracle 8.0.5 on a SuSE 6.0 - Server.
I had no idea how to solve it. So, because I knew that everything was configured like described in the documentation, I typed the commands in the script manualy.
Please have a look at the contents of the script. The last lines describe, what the script realy does: It changes the owner and group of the oratab file to dba as group and oracle as owner.

The usage of chown and chgrp is described in the appendix B of the "Installation Guide for Linux".

I hope this helps you
kel

Hello,

ik got a problem.

Just installed Linux on a test server (suse 6.1, kernel 2.2.5)

Made a Oracle user and a dba group with oracle as a member

But i still get the answer will running oratab.sh:

The user "oracle" should be in "dba" group. please add user "oracle" to
group  "dba" and re-run the oratab.sh script.

The group file looks like:

dba::101:oracle

the passwd file looks like:
oracle:x:500:101:oracle user:/home/oracle:bin/sh
