Oracle 7.2.3 is specifically noted by Oracle to have problems on AIX. It can
have block corruption errors. If those errors affect a Table (as opposed to
an indexes or a RBS) you could lose data.



I suggest you consider upgrading to 734 or 805 ASAP. Both are supported
under 4.x.
