JDBC Connection to Local Instance

Does anyone know of a way to force the JDBC driver to use the local instance of Oracle running on a Java application's machine, rather than having to specify a URL? We want to utilize OS authentication and not have to embed a user/password into our application or be supplied on the command line. This will be a program that is run from a UNIX shell script and should have not user interaction.

Thanks,
Richard Williams
