Did you do a full OS backup prior to the install?

Did you do an export of every DB?

If so, you can at least get back to time 0. If not, this is an expensive lesson in DBA rule #1: do not trust an Oracle install/update/migrate to work. Be very cautious and backup, backup, and backup again.

If you can go back to time 0, I recommend you use the 8.0 export to create a new 8i DB via export/import.

1) remove 8.0
2) remove all DB files
3) remove all ORACLE vars in the registry and all services
4) install 8i with no DB
5) create a brand new empty DB that is a clone of the 8.0 DB
6) import the 8.0 DB export file into the new 8i DB
7) look for post-import errors and do the approp. cleanup

I have a paper on the ECO web site with more detailed instructions if you need it. Received on Wed May 05 1999 - 20:23:56 CDT
