Database startup

I have a problem with Oracle8 on Aix


On startup :


Database "PAT" possibly left running when system went down (system
crash?).


Notify Database Administrator.


Database "PAT" NOT started. 


Effectively a crah occured.


Any idea for startup this database correctly?
