oracle 8.0 (NT) and read+write-access thru a www-server (linux)

what would be the best way to enable read+write-acccess on the webserver?
- going with perl and DBI

• php and somthing like odbc.
• ...

all the examples i found, had the db-kernel on the same machine as the web-server. i cant do this because of security.

i hope that this is not a very untypical hw/sw-configuration.
