Apache Web Server with OAS PL/SQL Cartridge

Is it possible to invoke the pl/sql cartridge via the apache web listener?
Does anyone have experience of doing this and is it reliable (more reliable
than  OAS listener)? I seem to recall that this is supposed to be
possible.....if it is doable, are there any version dependencies?
