binary types

I have 2 questions:

How can you enter a binary file into a table in Oracle 8? I know that you declare the datatype as 'raw', but how exactly is a .gif (for instance) entered. Also, how do you create a new schema? I cant figure that out...uptill now all my tables are part of the System schema.

I'd appreciate it if someone can help me out.
