This information is from the Oracle 8i getting started manual, don't have it here so this is from memory.

Ther are 4 versions of Oracle 8i 8.1.5, the PERSONAL which is for single user, a WORKSTATION version small amount of people, STANDARD version which is your normal database could be considered your regular type of database, and the ENTERPRISE version which is tuned for OLTP and datawarehousing.

Now you have the addons which are the JSERVER versions, one for the "standard" and one for the ENTERPRISE version. Theses are what gives you the JVM, and allow you to use Java. There is suppost to be a JSERVER ACCELLERATOR for the ENTERPRISE version, and that is going to be released in the fall. --
