Pat's solution will avoid the username/password appearing in the ps list but use of inline data (using <<) creates a temporary file in /tmp that may be readable by other users depending on the the umask setting. The best solution is to have the user in question identified externally (either with the specific clause or by use of the OS_AUTHENT_PREFIX) so that they can logon to the database using a / therefor avoiding the issue altogether
