Piero,

  This usually happens under heavy load. SMON raises this error when it cannot obtain the ST lock for space management. You could try setting PCTINCREASE to 0 on the TEMP tablespace and if possible on the other tablespaces to prevent SMON from coalesing extents. HTH.
