We considered Oracle 8i when we started this project, but when it came to placing the orders, we were told that it would not be available here in Holland until the Summer. Since we had very short timescales this was impractical then.

We do expect a follow-on project in the Summer and that will definitely include an upgrade to 8i, so I will revisit this issue then. I guess until then we just have to live with the data duplication.
