i have tried running the installation from three sets of original media and from my hard drive, all with the same result.

i am using windows 98 on a brand new computer. the installation worked the first time, but i needed to add a component. that is where i am now. i have uninstalled oracle completely, thinking an environment variable was bad. no i can install nothing. i removed all of the oracle references from the registry with no results.
