Newbie Question - internal password

I have just installed 8.0.3 on an NT server, and cannot figure out how to set the internal password. I'm unable to 'connect internal' in svrmgr80 because I don't have the password. Also can't use database assistant to delete the database because I can't specify the 'internal' password, etc.etc. I surfed the newsgroup and tried creating a pwdorcl.ora file with orapwd80, and succeeded in creating a file, but I'm not sure where this file is supposed to go, or even if this is the right approach.
