Re: Can anyone relate any experiences using Legato with Oracle?

We are using Legato to backup all of our Oracle databases. We are on HPUX 10.20. The databases have ranged in version from Oracle 7.1.6, 7.3.3, to 7.3.4. We are satified with both its performance and integration with Oracle.

We have successfully done hot & cold backups, as well as recoveries with the EBU/Legatto combination. We have found it convienent to keep a small test database available for testing backup/recovery senerios with Legatto, or for testing new Oracle/EBU versions. There was a fair learning curve getting comfortable with the EBU/Legatto combination, but we were new to EBU as well, and that was the biggest part of the change for us. Taking the time to develop a test plan & then throughly test the various senerios for backup and recovery prior to implementing EBU/Legatto was time well spent.

We have had a few issues when upgrading databases to higher versions of Oracle with getting the EBU registry correctly changed, but that was related to a bug in the older version of EBU we were forced to use since we still had a 7.1.6 database. Thankfully that database has been upgraded to 7.3.3, so we are free to upgrade our EBU version and hope not to encounter that problem in the future.
