orainst crashes system

i have oracle lite 3.5 as bundled with symantec visual cafe

i have installed successfully once, but it did not install navigator 8. so, i uninstalled it using orainst.

now when i try and re-install the software, my system crashes each time with a "program performed an illegal operation" when i try to launch orainst.

i need the odbc drivers for oracle for the project that i am developing.
