I try to install shipping version of oracle 8.0.5 on Red Hat Linux 5.2. after running ./orainst and filling in all variables etc. i select the modules to install. orainst then starts to verify the integrity or something,
and when it comes to oracle 8 RDBMS it gives me this message:

The dbs directory is not even there, and i have no oracle instances running, but no matter
what i do it just returns to this screen when i press yes. no and cancel aborts the installation.

this has been bugging me for a few days now, so i would greatly appreciate any help.

thank you
