Are you using 'mount' or 'pfs_mount' to mount the CD? I've just had the same results until I read the install guide (at 7.3.4). The method here is :

add line to /etc/pfs_fstab containing : /dev/dsk/c5t2d0 /SD_CDROM pfs-rrip xlat=unix 0 0

nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd &
nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
/usr/sbin/pfs_mount /SD_CDROM
