Oracle 8i technically includes both Oracle 8.0.x and Oracle 8.1.x.

The main difference between Oracle 8.1.x and Oracle 8.0.x is that that Oracle 8.1.x includes a Java virtual machine running as part of Oracle RDBMS.

Oracle 8.0.x database can be upgraded to Oracle 8.1.x.
