What operating system are you installing on? NT, 98, 95,...?

I have experience installing on 95 and NT. And on both, one of the options is to create a default database. This option creates the required services for you.

I have not created a separate database on 95, but on NT, you need a executable called ORADIM73 (version 7.3.4). The command to create an service is (with a sid of TEST, internal password of PASS): ORADIM73 -new -sid TEST -intpwd PASS -startmode AUTO -pfile <path to initTEST.ora file>

btw, startmode of AUTO will cause the instance to startup up automatically when you turn the machine on.

Hope this helps,
