-lnsl Linker Error O-8 for Linux

   I have waded through this entire site, with people just metioning the error, but not how to fix it. I Am inserting another plea out there to anyone who reads this...

   I thought -lnsl and -lsocket was an HP-UX/Solaris thing... I have never had to use it for compiling network programs in Linux. When i write my inet programs i usually /have/ to include a waste load of #ifndef's for HPUX/SOLARIS and then the LINUX versions... ie: herror is different as opposed to perror... Anyways, i have never compiled network programs using -lnsl and
-lsocket, so i am wondering why O8 would be wanting to do such a
thing...

   Which leads me to my second question... is there a setting that i am missing, a configuration file where i have to comment out #define SVR4 and uncomment #define LINUX...
