O-PQ: how is default parallel degree obtained in RAID config's?

Oracle states in it's tuning manual ('determining the degree of parallelism') that (i quote) 'Oracle automaticly computes the default parallel degree of a table as the minimum of the number of disks storing the table and the number of cpu's avaible. If, as recommended, you have striped objects over at least as many disks as you have cpu's, the default parallelism will always be the number of cpu's'.

Now what if we decide (as recommended) to stripe our big table over some RAID volume. This RAID volume (consisting of a lot of 'real' physical devices) would appear to the OS (NT in this case) as 'one disk'. I would bet that Oracle sees this volume as 'one disk' as well. So would the default degree of parallelism in this case be 'one', or is my assumption wrong?

Any 'enlighted' comments much appreciated!
