Dial-in users hanging on select

Hi!

Using Oracle 7.3.2.3 Server for Netware. Users who dial-in to our database have started getting hung up during a select statement. Users directly on the LAN are not affected. We have recently added duplicate indexes to several tables involved.

When we went to drop one such index, we got an error "Index does not exist". So we saved as / recreated the table, then the indexes. This helped for a day or two, but then the problem recurred.

Is our Front-end GUI application somehow corrupting / locking these indexes? Do we need to drop some/all of them? We are novice Oracle users, over our heads acting as DBAs for our system.

Help!
