Query Standby databases ?

Hi,



A friend has just confidently informed me that you can query a database
thats in standby mode. This doesn't appear to be the case according to the
Oracle 8.0 documentation that I have. Is this some Oracle 8i feature ? any
ideas ?



Iam current using Oracle 8.0.5 on NCR 03.02 if it helps.
