Operating system AIX 4.2.1 Oracle 7.3.4

Database operated in ARCHIVELOG mode.

We usually

  1. Shutdown the database.
  2. Backup all datafiles, controlfiles and redo logs.
  3. Restart the database.

All the above is done weekly.

We have crons to shutdown/restart the database.

This morning we had a disk crash, which lost an tablespace containing one datafile containing indexes.

We replaced the disk, recovered tablespace, rolled forward etc etc.

Tried the database which seemed O.K.

On checking the ALERT files, there was a warning message saying somthing about a possible fuzzy backup !!!!.

On further investigation we discovered that on the backup we restored from, the database was not closed down due to an error in closedown script !!!. At the time in quiestion I CAN GUARANTEE there was no activity on the database.

As the recovery seemed O.K and the functioning of the database O.K. can I assume that all is well ??????

Any comments would be appreciated.

Jason Morgan.

P.S The error in the closedown script is now fixed. Received on Mon Feb 01 1999 - 16:11:53 CST
