Oracle has two cluster "solutions" for NT; Oracle Fail Safe and Oracle Parallel Server. Fail Safe is geared toward resource availability, while OPS is geared more to scalability (but also gives you higher availability). With OFS, the cluster is a "share nothing" cluster, where a database can only run on one server at a time. If the server running the database dies, the database and its resources (disk drives, listener, etc) fail over to the other server in the cluster. With OPS, there are two instances connected to the same database. If one instance fails, connection can still be made via the other instance. With NT, to be able to do this, the disk resources have to be set up as a Raw partition. To run a cluster in NT, you need to have NT Server Enterprise Edition.
