Calculate DB requests/second?

Does anyone have a calculation for determining the number of database requests per second that an Oracle instance is performing over a period of time? It sounds simple but I'm having trouble getting this information. As a matter of fact, how can I determine the total number of requests (of all types - select, insert, update, delete) over a period of time?

Your help is much appreciated.
