You should be especially careful if you are moving fields from an EBCDIC system to an ASCII system when some of the fields are either binary or packed- decimal. These fields will end up being scrambled during the transition to your ASCII system. If you must transfer these fields in their original format, there are some products on the market like Syncsort's Fileport which will automatically unscramble the binary and packed-decimal fields after they have been transfered.
