Hello Experts,

My database experience is so far rooted in mySQL and ADABAS on Solaris, I'm relatively new to ORACLE.

Problem: I want to access an existing ORACLE 8 DB on a solaris host from a Linux box via perl/DBI.

If I understand correctly, the DBD:Oracle driver needs an installed ORACLE 8 on my Linux client. Or at least I need parts of it to compile DBD:Oracle. Which parts? Are they already available? Or, alternatively, I can access via DBD:ODBC, but then I need an Oracle8 ODBC driver on my Linux. Does it exist?

Any help apreciated,
Herwig Henseler
