Thanks all for replying. I learned a bunch, specifically that running core oracle7 threads on separate processors is not supported, yet that Oracle8 may provide the solution, and that is our eventual target anyway.

Also, thanks for the pointers to Parallel Query, and to the task manager/process affinity feature - although it does not solve my problem, it is interesting to know that it is there.
