Count on Java replacing PL/SQL in 3 years. Internal Oracle R&D teams are working on Java 24 hours a day. PL/SQL is propietary and not friendly to the Internet. Oracle wants to be the DB of the 21Cent and that means Java and the Internet.

Watch how Oracle spends its $, Java tools (OEM, DB assistant), the "300% Java" env, JSQL, Jbuilder, Java 1.2 compat across-the-board, JVM technology, Java classes at O Ed., etc.

PL/SQL will go away just like Oracle has tossed aside Client/server - (right after making all Financials customers go to C/S only 1 year ago). Received on Sun Jan 17 1999 - 19:41:06 CST
