Dear Babette,

You can avoid the ODBC hassle. I wrote an addin for Excel to talk to Oracle. It is very user friendly and comes about as a new menu item in Excel.

Oraxcel takes your query and fetches the results in the spreadsheet. You can even change the fetched data on the spreadsheet and post all the changes back in one go. Also Oraxcel now can do SQL*Loader type of work: mass insert a whole spreadsheet into Oracle in one go.
