Oracle itself is Y2K whatever format you choose - HOWEVER I would strongly recommend 4 digit years...when it comes to Oracle converting strings implicitly to dates and vice-versa - it may save you some grief...

Common ones would be:

dd.mm.yyyy
dd-mon-yyyy
