Oracle*Names and Net8 listener are two different services and should be using two different ports. I use 1526 for listeners and 7777 for Oracle*Names. Listener doesn't have anything to do with the name server. Name server will continue to work even if listener is down. Database is only needed when the initial values are read during Oracle*Names startup. Mladen Gogala
