Unix or Win/NT

Hello,

I have two questions:

1. What's the reasons to prefer a UNIX machine rather than a Windows NT server or a Windows NT server rather than a UNIX machine to install an Oracle8 Database ?
2. Oracle8 is case sensitive!

select ename from emp_table
where upper(ename) like 'A%'; this make it unsensitive, is there an other option?
