Far be it for me to recommend NT as a server, but I have to tell you that I've seen much better performance than that.
My limits on a quad PPro 200 Compaq Proliant 5500 server are around 1,200 connections, and the performance is acceptable. However, having reached this limit at a relatively small number of users (300) we are now migrating to Solaris for x86. Expect performance comparisons soon. :)
I'm curious, do you mean processes or threads?
