One of the OpenWorld sessions brought to my attention the delightful
fact that setting the NLS_DATE_FORMAT WITHOUT ALSO SETTING THE
NLS_LANGUAGE may provide you with unspecified results.... IOW make sure
to specify ENGLISH, or whatever, as the date format changes for
different language groups.
