Storing scanned images - how?

Hi!



We have a requirement to store electronic signatures to be inserted into
a certain report.  We are looking for advice, direction on how best to
accomplish this?  Tips, sites, documentation - any help would be greatly
appreciated.



We don't know what file format we'll be getting, but our boss is talking
about scanning the signatures - Adobe PDF perhaps?
