Interesting Challange

I was asked to go back to an old client of mine (who will remain nameless) to create a database to support an old system (it must be kept alive for a number of years for access to the information - which also can not be migrated to a new system for business reasons).

No problem I thought, the system runs on HP-UX 10.20 Oracle 7.2.2.4 and uses a mixture of Forms 3.0 and Forms 4.5 screens. Cutting edge stuff. (Ok it pays the bills etc etc).

Here's the challage. The IT manager (and the permy DBA), has decided that to save costs, the backend should be migrated to NT running Personnal Oracle. Pause. Personnal Oracle and Forms 3.0. Apparently this will save a bucket of cash.

They are convinced that this is possible, yet I am equally certain that Personnal Oracle is not compatable with SQL*Net 1.1 required to service Forms 3.0.

Since this was a fixed price contact, I told them to give me a call when they got board trying to get this working. So my question is. Can Forms 3.0 run against Personnal Oracle. Ignore the certification and support issues for a moment, just technically can this work. Received on Thu Dec 10 1998 - 03:42:45 CST
