automated shutdown in Oracle 8.0.5 Enterprise Edition

I am new to Oracle and we have installed Enterprise Edition version 8.0.5. I noticed in a search of the archives that the recommended automated shutdown procedure for version 7 was SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE, STARTUP RESTRICT and SHUTDOWN NORMAL prior to taking a cold backup (or if the Unix box needs to be rebooted for any reason). With version 8.0.5, I notice that there is a SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL option. Is that equivalent to the SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE/STARTUP RESTRICT/SHUTDOWN NORMAL procedure recommended by version 7 administrators?

Thanks in advance.
