I am not sure if there is a simple answer.

40 inserts per second=3,456,000 inserts per day.

On one of our slow NT servers, I just used SQL*LOADER for 18M inserts in about 20 minutes. I have a test program that does some timings that loops an insert and does about 4M per hour.

The issue is how are the inserts coded, are there any indexes, etc.
