To all newgroup members,

I'm still on a learning curve of Oracle. I do have enough experience in system development
but not using Oracle Tools. So, I would like to ask about Oracle Form.

Before I start, this is my Oracle environment:

| Platform: Sun Solaris 2.6 (both the database server and forms server)|
| Database Server: Oracle 8.0.4.2.1 |
| Oracle Application: Release 11.0.1

|

We have decided that we need to do some customization in Oracle Application . I do have created some table in the database serer. Now I need to build a form that can
integrate with my application (just a simple one, only involve my own custom table).
I just want to understand a full concept before I start to work on it.

Oracle Application Release 11.0.1 is Java based application. What I understand the form server and the database server is in a separate machine. I like to develop a form using any tools (which of course the easiest and can integrate with my Oracle Application. "Budget is not a problem"). I have come across with Oracle JDeveloper but don't really understand it because i still don't try that tools.

I need somebody who can share their knowledge to guide me on this area.

  1. I want to create a form which is a Java base same like my Oracle Application Release 11
    • advise me what tools is the best to work on. - I also have Discoverer 2000 Release 1.3 which have Oracle Report 2.5, Oracle Form 4.5.7 - Can I use this tools and then use some migration utilities to make it Java Form? - Which is the best : Use Oracle JDeveloper or use other Oracle Form or other utilities and then migrate it to Java. I would like it to be a long term investment.
  2. What I need to do after the form is ready - What I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), previously 1) Create a form using Oracle Form (which is .fmx file). Then register it under my Oracle Application. - But how about Java?
  3. Are my Oracle Environment capable of creating Java Form or is it need Oracle 8i for Oracle JDeveloper? 3) I need to know the steps from A-Z if somebody can help me so that I can do a simple test. - I just want to see at the end (for my simpe test). In my existing Oracle Application Rel 11, let say there is a custom menu and when I press on it, my custom Java form will comes out doesn't matter if it was only a blank form (I will work on the programming stuff later on). I just want to see this one first. 4) What are the tools I can use for my testing purpose (Can I use the existing Discoverer 2000).

I really hope that somebody will guide me so that I can start do some simple test successfully.
Any suggestions are welcome. I highly appreciate a "how to" for both Forms and Oracle Application
reply. Again thanks.
