I'm sure. I 've tried to make more dblinks. My results:
1.From Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux to 8.0.5 for Sun - OK, 2.From Oracle 7.3.4 for Sun to 8.0.5 for Sun - OK, 3.From Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux to 7.3.4 for Sun - Doesn't works, 4.From Oracle 8.0.5 for Sun to 7.3.4 for Sun - Doesn't works, 5.From Oracle 8.0.5 for Sun to 8.0.5 for Linux - OK.I guess if distributed option was not installed , dblinks (1,2,5) were never worked.
PS. Excuse my for my English.
