No SGA*Pad (From 7.3.2.3.2 onwards - Alpha Only)

With releases prior to 7.3.2.3.2 Oracle used an SGAPAD to hold the whole of

the SGA. When you wanted to increase the size of the SGA you could only    increase it up to the size of the SGAPAD. Once you went over this limit,    the SGAPAD had to be increased by shutting down Oracle and relinking.    With release 7.3.2.3.2 there is no SGAPAD, so relinking to increase the    size of the SGA is no longer necessary.    VLM - 64 Bit Support (From 7.3.2.3.2 onwards - Alpha Only)

From release 7.3.2.3.2 onwards, Oracle adds 64 bit support to VMS.    64 bit addressing increases the amount of memory Oracle is able to access.

This allows large databases to have the whole of the SGA fitted permanently

in memory (obviously you need enough main memory to cope with this).    Once you get above a 4Gb SGA, in memory databases have much improved    performance benefits over the typical Oracle installation. Received on Sat Nov 21 1998 - 14:56:08 CST
