ODBC, in my experience over the past three years, has been just one serious bug after another, like the problem you've described with the date field. If you're going to be updating the Oracle tables from Access or VB, you can use Oracle Objects for OLE (oo4o), which works with both Microsoft products. However, the oo4o data control has been more than a little flaky, so you'd have to do things in unbound mode in VB code. It's not rapid development, but it's fairly robust and better than bad. oo4o is a veritable Rock of Gibraltar compared to ODBC.
