Hopefully someone can help me with my placement of files.

I have my own Ideas, but I would like others' opinions.

I have two NT servers and here are their descriptions:

Main Server

DELL 6300
Dual 400mhz Xeon processors

     w/ 1MB cache each.
1 Gig RAM
Dual channel Raid Card (scsi)
Six 4.5 Gig 10000rpm drives on channel 1.

    Call them D1-D6

Warehouse Server

DELL 6300
Quad 400mhz Xeon Processors

     w/ 1MB cache each.
1 Gig Ram
Dual channel Raid Card (scsi)
Four 4.5 Gig 10000rpm drives on channel 1

    Call them D1-D4

Four 9.5 Gig 10000rpm drives on channel 2

    Call them D5-D8

These are my inputs:

Main Server

  1. NT OS 300M
  2. Pagefile 250M
  3. Oracle Software 200M
  4. Application Software 100M
  5. Redo Logs 200M
  6. Control files (3) 10M ea.
  7. Archived logs 1024M +
  8. System Tablespace 512M *
  9. Temporary Tablespace 1512M *
  10. User Tablespace 1024M *
  11. Index Tablespace 1024M *
  12. Rollback Tablespace 1024M *

? Perhaps alittle more?
+ More if possible.
* The sizes for the Oracle tablespaces
could be made smaller, I only have the   need for about 500 Meg of Data/Index space.   I will be purging out data every 5-7 days   and warehousing it daily.

Warehouse Server

  1. NT OS 300M
  2. Pagefile 250M
  3. Oracle Software 200M
  4. Application Software 0M
  5. Redo Logs 200M ?
  6. Control files (3) 10M ea.
  7. Archived logs 2048M +
  8. System Tablespace 512M *
  9. Temporary Tablespace 2048M *
  10. User Tablespace 15360M *
  11. Index Tablespace 7168M *
  12. Rollback Tablespace 2048M *

? Perhaps alittle more?
+ More if possible.
* The sizes for the Oracle tablespaces
are about right, they could obviously   be broken into separate files for spreading   across any RAID array.

Now my questions is what would be a good raid config given that the Main server is mainly WRITE intensive, while the Warehouse will do some Batch-type inserts and updates during the Night (and some during the day) but will mainly be READ intensive.

What Im looking for is some help like this:

MAIN SERVER

D1,D2 use Raid 1

      Put files: 1,2,3,4
D3,D4 use Raid 1

      Put files: 5,6,7,8
D5,D6 use Raid 1

      Put files: 9,10,11,12

I realize that I will have to test loads and balance files accordingly, but any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks
s_teng
