Hi,
Tablespace SYSTEM is intended to keep objects belonging to SYS
(in fact, Oracle RDBMS kernel).
SYSTEM is primarily intended to keep repositories of any oracle tools.
So if database is created via orainst on unix its default tablespace
is TOOLS (but not for example on NT ;-)).
However, this naming convention of schemas and its defaul tablespaces
may appear as not very clear...
Warnings... It is not desirable to store any objects (except of owned
by SYS) in SYSTEM tablespace for several reasons.
Primarily for performance reason (contention on datafiles) and
availability (for example you can't take SYSTEM offline).
