Go to a DOS prompt. Type in regedt32. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, ORACLE. Look on the right for PFILE_SID where SID is the name of your database (like ORCL, for example). You will see the path and filename for your initSID.ora listed there. Remember changes to initSID.ora take effect _after_the database is restarted.
