  2. client->host,
  3. host SQL

                is the problem ?

 if it is assumed ( is it ? ) that Java applets and Java servlets can be run from the client and host respectively,

        Java is a good candidate.

 Your post's subject line neglects to mention SQL, no small matter,   your question is very, very broad, and you've given no indication of where your problem is.
